How it all started

Sanne and Tsega met by chance on a bus in southern Ethiopia in 2002. As the ramshackle bus, crowded with passengers, baskets and chickens, bumped into the town of Hosaina, Tsega pulled out a worn photo album and vividly told a story about each photo in a language mix of Amharic, English snippets and wild arm movements. A close friendship developed from this chance encounter. After spending two days together in Hosaina at the time, they traveled together to the capital Addis Ababa, where Tsega began training as a nurse. In Germany, family and friends helped pay for college fees and life in the city. After three years, Tsega graduated at the top of her class. This small but crucial jump start, changed the lives of Tsega and her entire family. From the beginning, as the oldest of eight siblings, she shared her salary with the family. One of the first purchases from her own money was shoes for everyone. To this day, Tsega is immensely grateful that strangers from a distant country made it possible for her to complete an education that she could never have afforded as a bitterly poor girl from the countryside. In Germany, it was hard for family and friends to experience what poverty means in concrete terms and how much can be achieved with so few resources. Therefore, we had already considered founding an association at that time. Now, finally, Rosii Manno e.V. has been founded with many of the supporters of that time. We are happy about everyone who would like to support the Rosii Manno children with a donation or as a sponsoring member.

The Rosii Manno Team

Solomon

Solomon, Tsega's father, is a member of the community and elders' council of Funamura village and is respected and recognized by the entire village community. He has been in close contact with the children's parents from the beginning and did a lot of sensitive persuasion work in the beginning to ensure that the children also go to school every day. To this day he is the contact person for the parents, teachers and for everyone in Funamura who is interested in Rosii Manno. Solomon often picks up the children from school for lunch, talks with teachers and the director, manages the monthly budget, collects and writes receipts. He leads and keeps all threads together on site.
